PLAGIARISM POLICY

Dakwatul Islam is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity, publication ethics, and scholarly responsibility. The journal strictly prohibits all forms of plagiarism and unethical appropriation of intellectual work. Every manuscript submitted to Dakwatul Islam must represent original scholarly work, appropriately acknowledge the contributions of other researchers, and comply with established standards of academic citation and referencing.

1. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism refers to the act of presenting another person's ideas, words, data, findings, arguments, or intellectual contributions as one's own without proper acknowledgment or appropriate citation. Plagiarism may occur in several forms, including but not limited to:

  1. Direct Plagiarism: Copying sentences, paragraphs, or substantial portions of another person's work without quotation marks or proper citation.

  2. Mosaic Plagiarism: Combining phrases, sentences, or ideas from multiple sources without adequate acknowledgment, even when some words have been modified.

  3. Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Rewriting another author's ideas or arguments without providing appropriate citations.

  4. Self-Plagiarism: Reusing substantial portions of one's previously published work without proper acknowledgment or disclosure.

  5. Data and Figure Plagiarism: Using another researcher's data, tables, figures, illustrations, or other research materials without appropriate acknowledgment.

  6. Source Misrepresentation: Presenting references, citations, or scholarly sources inaccurately or in a manner that misrepresents the original author's contribution.

2. Similarity Index Threshold

All manuscripts submitted to Dakwatul Islam will undergo a similarity screening process using plagiarism detection software, such as Turnitin or other equivalent tools, before proceeding to the peer-review process.

The journal establishes the following similarity index requirements:

  • Below 25%: Manuscripts with an overall similarity index of less than 25% are generally considered eligible to proceed to the next stage of editorial assessment, provided that no significant plagiarism or unethical textual appropriation is identified.

  • 25% or above: Manuscripts with a similarity index of 25% or higher will be subject to further editorial evaluation. Authors may be requested to revise the manuscript, clarify the sources of similarity, or provide appropriate corrections before the manuscript can proceed.

  • Substantial or intentional plagiarism: Regardless of the overall similarity percentage, manuscripts containing evidence of direct plagiarism, unattributed intellectual appropriation, fabricated citations, or other serious publication ethics violations may be rejected.

The similarity index is used as an initial screening indicator and does not, by itself, determine whether plagiarism has occurred. Proper attribution, originality of scholarly contribution, and the context of textual similarities remain the primary considerations in editorial decisions.

3. Plagiarism Screening Procedure

Dakwatul Islam implements the following procedures to prevent and identify plagiarism:

  1. Every submitted manuscript is screened using plagiarism detection software before entering the peer-review process.

  2. The editorial team carefully examines the similarity report, particularly matching passages, source attribution, quotations, references, and paraphrased materials.

  3. Manuscripts with a similarity index below 25% may proceed to further editorial assessment if no significant ethical concerns are identified.

  4. Manuscripts with a similarity index of 25% or higher may be returned to the authors for revision or clarification.

  5. Manuscripts suspected of containing substantial or intentional plagiarism may be rejected without proceeding to peer review.

  6. Additional plagiarism screening may be conducted during the review and production stages whenever necessary.

4. Authors' Responsibilities

Authors submitting manuscripts to Dakwatul Islam are required to:

  1. Ensure that their manuscripts are original and have not been plagiarized from other published or unpublished works.

  2. Provide proper citations and references for all ideas, statements, data, and materials obtained from other sources.

  3. Use quotation marks and appropriate citations when reproducing exact words from other publications.

  4. Avoid excessive reuse of their own previously published work without proper acknowledgment.

  5. Disclose any substantial overlap with their previous publications or related manuscripts.

  6. Ensure that all references accurately represent the sources cited in the manuscript.

  7. Cooperate with the editorial team in addressing any concerns related to plagiarism or academic integrity.

5. Editorial Actions and Sanctions

If plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct are identified, Dakwatul Islam reserves the right to take appropriate editorial actions in accordance with the severity of the violation and established publication ethics standards.

Possible actions include:

  1. Requesting clarification or explanation from the author.

  2. Requiring substantial revisions and proper acknowledgment of the original sources.

  3. Rejecting the submitted manuscript.

  4. Withdrawing a manuscript from the editorial and publication process.

  5. Retracting a published article if serious plagiarism is confirmed after publication.

  6. Notifying the author's affiliated institution or relevant authorities when necessary and appropriate.

All cases will be handled fairly, confidentially, and objectively, with due consideration of the available evidence and the authors' explanations.

6. Post-Publication Plagiarism

If plagiarism is discovered after an article has been published, the editorial board will conduct an investigation in accordance with the journal's publication ethics procedures. Depending on the findings, the journal may issue a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction notice.

The journal reserves the right to take further action to maintain the integrity and reliability of its scholarly record.

7. Commitment to Publication Ethics

Dakwatul Islam is committed to maintaining academic integrity, originality, transparency, and accountability throughout the publication process. This policy applies to all submitted and published manuscripts and is binding on authors, editors, reviewers, and all parties involved in the journal's publication process.
