Abstract

The global environmental crisis demands an educational approach that goes beyond technocratic aspects to also touch on the transformation of students' values and paradigms. This article aims to analyze the integration of Islamic ecospirituality in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) so that students understand nature as a trust and a sign of God's greatness, not merely a source of resources. This study uses a qualitative approach with an intrinsic case study design at SDIT Sakinah Pekanbaru, involving IRE teachers, students, and the principal. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis (lesson plans, curriculum), then analyzed using thematic analysis. The results show that teachers build Islamic ecospirituality through three main constructs: ecological monotheism, khilafah as stewardship, and ecological worship manifested in learning practices. The integration of ecospirituality is implemented through three models, namely thematic infusion in PAI material, value-based projects in real environmental care activities, and a reflective-contemplative approach through tadabbur alam (contemplation of nature). The impact is evident in the holistic development of students: strengthening conceptual understanding (khalifah–amanah in the context of the environment), increasing spiritual ecological empathy, and forming environmentally friendly behaviors such as saving water, maintaining cleanliness, and avoiding actions that damage plants. This finding confirms that PAI learning has the potential to become a strategic vehicle for shaping environmentally conscious character based on Islamic values.
